kate_nepveu: quasi-botantical design stitched in green thread on cream fabric (stitching)

Since the spring, I've done the backing on that red-brown-gold knotwork bookmark, did a blackwork bookmark for a Con or Bust winner (no picture; it's the same as the last one here only in blue), and finished the third cross-stitch for the Pip's room—he liked the polar bears, but then he noticed that SteelyKid had THREE cross-stitches in HER room, so I promised to make him another.

Here's a lousy picture, which I couldn't get the color-correction correct on; the fabric is white:

[Image: cross-stitch of a red squirrel sitting on a tree branch, with "Red the Squirrel" written underneath]

I modified the pattern slightly by taking out the superfluous second "Red" and stitching it over-two, adding in quarter-stitches where appropriate to smooth out the edges.

Next up: Christmas present for this year; then kit up another snowflake bookmark for [personal profile] pameladean for travel but focus on finally finishing the big overdyed red dragon, so I can finally, FINALLY tackle the Wentzler Celestial Dragon. (Both of these were presents to me for Christmas 2008, so, they've been waiting.)

(This means I am firmly discouraged from making another set of Christmas ornaments for people as presents, even if I fell down a hole last night of Mill Hill's kits. I took copious notes instead.)

I have that Celestial Dragon pattern too. Of course I have more patterns than I could ever actually stitch. ;-)

Every time you post your beautiful cross stitch projects I'm tempted to go dig out my hoop.

I'm pretty sure it lasts longer than that. My mom made a point of distributing important things evenly and fairly her entire life.

(ETA: She was one of two kids, and she had two kids.)

True! There was a period where my brother & SIL had to keep a family photo covered because it didn't include the youngest, even though it was taken before the kid was born. Yay early sense of fairness.

Aww, that's adorable!

I have only done one Wentzler ever (twin peacocks out of a magazine) and I tore my hair out the entire time, but so worth it. Of course, when I gave it to my brother- and sister-in-law, they displayed it upside-down. *g* It looks just as pretty upside-down, so I just didn't say anything. For all I know it's still on the mantel upside-down! ^_^

Yep! That's the one.

In all fairness, I can't tell whether the issue was the design or the fact that I can barely tell colors apart, and I don't have a lot of stitching experience either, which can't have helped. Good to have done, though. The results were so beautiful.

Lovely work, that red squirrel.

Oooh, I like the way that overdyed red dragon combines various techniques and textures.

With you on the Xmas ornaments too -- especially ones with Xmas trees on them (meta!).

Ooh, the overdyed red dragon is gorgeous. It almost tempts me to learn blackwork so I can try it.
