Kind of a long time ago, in comments to a non-public post, [personal profile] leighdb and I had too much fun sketching out an Avengers not-a-vid to Paul Simon's "You Can Call Me Al." It's a not-a-vid because neither of us vid or have time to learn, but it amused us and the song came up on shuffle today, so I've taken five minutes to put our comments in something like chronological order, tidy them up slightly, and post them for the possible amusement of others. (If this also results in inspiration, have at it.)

In which Bruce Banner is soft in the middle, Tony Stark has a short little span of attention, and Steve Rogers walks down a street in a strange world. )

There, now it's off my mental do-someday list, and I am amused. *wanders off humming*

That I previously posted to G+ and forgot to move here.

First: Another post about rape at Fugitivus, an excellent (definitive?) explanation of why rape culture is culture.

Second: [personal profile] absolutedestiny has vidded Toph and Lin Beifong to LL Cool J's "Mama Said Knock You Out," and it is AMAZING. Embed behind the cut, or download at their journal. Spoilers for all of Avatar: The Last Airbender and season one of The Legend of Korra.

Previously linked to: a cover of "Seven Nation Army" set to robot armies.

Now: "Seven Nation Army" covered on lab equipment.

Happily, this is a much better thing to have stuck in my head than "Rubber Duckie."

This is from last summer, but many of you will probably not have come across it: "Around the Bend", a really awesome multifandom vid by [personal profile] danegen, to the song of the same name by The Asteriods Galaxy Tour.

Vidder's summary: Taking the wheel. My summary: Women being joyous and kick-ass in their motor vehicles (cars, motorcycles, spaceships, tanks, that kind of thing). Content notes: almost nothing—one raised middle finger; a few shots of scantily-clad people in implied sexual situations.

I particularly like the hard-acceleration turn-jolt transitions around 1:20-1:24 and the slowing-down transitions around 3:26 (boots!). Also everything with Starbuck flying (see also: "I Enjoy Being a Girl" by [livejournal.com profile] absolutedestiny) and whoever is backing up and doing a gun-hand at 3:40.

I am being nibbled to death by ducks and my coping mechanisms tonight include comfort food and various media-ish things loosely organized around the quote from Terry Pratchett's Men at Arms in the subject line, some of which I have admittedly linked here before, but hey:

"Lantern," Josh Ritter.

Tell me what's the point of light
That you have to strike a match to find?

So throw away those lamentations
We both know them all too well
If there's a book of jubilations
We'll have to write it for ourselves
So come and lie beside me darling
And let's write it while we still got time

"Seven Nation Army," a multi-fandom vid by [livejournal.com profile] charmax.

Lighting a flamethrower . . . against robot armies of DOOM.

"I Shall Be Free," a vid of The Shawshank Redemption, also by [livejournal.com profile] charmax.

One of my staple comfort stories, to a really great song by Kid Beyond.

And now I have to bundle up and walk the dog. Further variations on the theme welcomed.
