This is all quite fascinating, though I don't think I have enough sophistication for gardens of sand and rocks either.

The deer remind me of those at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, which we visited when my younger son was two. We still (embarrassingly) say "Hi, dee!" when we see a deer in the wild, in imitation of how he fed them carrots.
