It's Tolkien's birthday today.

Maybe I will re-read The Silmarillion next after all, his books being the best presents he could have given.

Nope. No secondary sources, as a matter of fact, except _Unfinished Tales_. Del Rey has the first five _History of Middle Earth_ volumes in a paperback boxed set, very cheap at Amazon, which I'm rather tempted by, though.
