Perhaps amaretto would be a good substitute for the espresso? It certainly makes a lovely addition!
A good chocolate for this is ScharffenBerger's (http://www.scharffen-berger.com). Their blend has just enough of a bite to it to keep the whole thing from being overwhelmingly sweet.
