Well, if I don't look at them on the microscopic level, then I can barely tell what's going on--it ends up feeling like "people fly around a lot," which hardly seems worth the effort of looking at. Perhaps when I get more familiar with fight scenes I won't need to stop and think about every movement, but this is all part of the process of educating myself.
(Also, this kind of analysis rather lends itself to microsopic-level discussion.)
As for Western-style action scenes, I really haven't read much. I suppose if I re-read _Watchmen_ this might help, but at the moment, the only Western comic I'm reading is _Lucifer_, which I will go back to when _Saiyuki_ stops eating my brain (or maybe I'll just wait until the whole thing is complete).
