I later resolved to filter my news and blog reading a lot more heavily, because I need to be able to function and I just wasn't when I was keeping a close eye on the news.

This is good advice I followed today. By turning off the news, I managed to slog through a heap of back-logged work today and finished some projects I've long put off.
