Maybe I'm just being cynical and not understanding the definition, but I think the US is just as "high-context" a culture with extremely dense canon and shared social experiences, and denying it serves to reinforce that other cultures are somehow more "cultural" whereas everyone in the US is just their own little special snowflake of individuality.
