Numbers 1.2, "Uncertainty Principle"

Okay, even though it got the Uncertainty Principle wrong, it was pleasingly tense and clever—oh, and non-needlessly-gross. But the real question is, what the heck kind of accent is Rob Morrow's character supposed to have? It makes my ears itch.

I liked the comparison with Minesweeper! And the discussion of their mother; it adds more depth to the characters, especially Charlie.

Sharing your puzzlement about the accent. I think it's supposed to be *not* the New York-area accent that IIRC he normally has, and used to such good effect as Joel Fleishman (sp?) on Northern Exposure. Though -- a Watsonian sort of explanation -- with having Judd Hirsch as his father, and his strong accent, for Morrow's character to have an NY accent, or the hint of one, influenced by his dad, would be somewhat plausible.

Actually, Rob Morrow's character Don doesn't "live" there, he just hangs out there a lot. Remember the bit from the first episode, when they were talking about the "hot zones," and he said something like, "If you tried to figure my 'hot zone' based on my address it'd come out wrong because I'm hardly ever at my apartment; I'm always at work or here [Dad's house]." So he does have his own place, we just haven't seen it yet, because he's a workaholic. I don't know about Charlie, but the way he's portrayed, maybe his head's just so full of the math stuff he just hasn't bothered to think about moving out. Or maybe he stays for the blackboards in the garage?

As for the accent, I think I'm in agreement with [livejournal.com profile] bibliotrope on both counts.

Huh, I tried watching it, and couldn't get into it. I'm easily annoyed by unnecessary camera work (Remember Homicide?) But the math annoyed me as well. In the opening sequence with all of the surveilance tapes, with random variables superimposed on various objects... anyway, just my opinion...
