THAT WAS THE CUTEST FUCKING THING
I literally laughed out loud when Pumpkin showed up with a party hat to be Pearl's nose. Oh my gosh.
And Lapis & Peridot used their meep morp skills to build a new sign!
Yes yes, wheel of morality turn turn turn, tell us the lesson that we should learn. That's fine. But Connie, yay Connie! And I love Lapis's lack of fucks but willingness to go along, to a certain point anyway.
(Time dilation issues seem not to have arisen, Diamonds have not beaten them back (as far as we know), that's all fine and good, though I do want to know about the Rubies, darn it!)

It is really hard to be poor parentified Steven. "I need to rescue my dad" is a cool trope inversion right up until you realize no child should ever have to say that.
On the other hand, Connie summarizing Steven's role as "you all have to do the right thing because you love me" is a painfully accurate portrayal of one aspect of parenthood.
Lapis remains my faaaaavorite. (That awkward moment over Thanksgiving dinner where she tells the joke that only she is oppressed enough to tell, and no one else but Peridot is allowed to laugh at it: PRICELESS.) I sometimes have a little trouble suspending disbelief for Lapis and Peridot as The Odd Gem Couple but I think that's because we never really saw their transition from "ugh, I'm supposed to share the barn with her" to "this is our meep morp installation".

Date: 2017-02-13 01:07 pm (UTC)I definitely agree that not seeing the intermediate steps of Lapis + Peridot is a problem, especially since the show rushed their reconciliation in the first place. As a result it's very hard for me to see Peridot as more to Lapis than the yapping little dog she indulges.
