How is what Doug doing any different from what Eleanor was doing in S1? Isn't trying to get points to save yourself the wrong motivation? Or are we supposed to think that, since no-one but the Accountants actually know the point totals (per this season), Michael was lying that her desire to get points negated the points? Yet motivation has to matter, because Tahani: so is wanting to go to the Good Place somehow "pure"?
On the podcast the writer of the episode drew a distinction between our four mortals being damned because they knew the existence of the system, whereas Doug is just guessing, which I find vastly unsatisfying, and still doesn't address Eleanor in S1.
Anyway. I want to have faith that this will end up making sense! And I am excited about examining the underpinnings of the system, I just have Opinions about all that, as you all know too well.
Janet, finally getting something to do! That whole bar sequence was fun, Chidi and Jason playing pool pong, Eleanor and Tahani being best friends, the intro of the demons and the Last Crusade riff. And they're "definitely going to die on Earth" by going into Janet's void! Whoa.
Finally, I am very excited for Janet's void and, apparently, ditching Earth. I will be very unhappy if Chidi doesn't say to Eleanor, of course I'm very flattered and I value your friendship immensely, but I loved Simone and I'm absolutely not in a place to think about a new relationship right now. Do not do wrong by Simone, show!
