Your suggestion about "read all the comments first" really resonated with me, as that's something i decided a year or 2 ago to engage in myself. In particular, i decided this especially when confronted with super long comment threads, because either it's an important enough discussion that i *should* read all the comments -- or, if i don't feel like reading all 300, then maybe i shouldn't be butting my nose in. If i feel i have something to add to the conversation but i DON'T really want to wade thru' all the comments, i'll just make a comment on my own blog just to get it out of my system.
As to your specific question about your conduct and your fear that you talked a lot: I don't feel that you did. First of all, from my vantage point i didn't sense the panel fidgeting whenever you were speaking; second, it felt there was an overall good balance in the room between input from audience and input from panelists; third, i, for one, thought all your contributions were really useful and kept the conversation moving.
