It's interesting, the angle I come at it, from parents who fled civil war and political chaos. Instead of looking at it at fear that it's going to get worse, I'm just amazed, frankly, it lasted as long as it did. That McCarthy screwed himself up and was taken down; that Nixon was held accountable for Watergate; so on, so forth. I mean, you compare that to, say, China or Korea...
We've had a good run, and more good years of peace than anyone could have reasonably expected. We'll fight for every day that's left, but I'm simply glad we got as many as we did.
