Thanks for the information about _Escaflowne_. And episode 13 is based off an omake?--that explains it, I was wondering where all that had come from (it must be in a volume after 2). I agree that as things get darker, it's nice to have some relief, and I look forward to it being better-integrated over the series (and the manga once I'm done with the anime).
