The Circle-verse books are more concrete, but they also start pitched pretty young.

The Alanna quartet are the first of the Tortall-verse books and have distinct EFP tendencies; then there's the Immortals quartet and the Kel ("Protector of the Small") quartet, and a duology that I don't like as much.

They are good comfort reading and have nice craft/training stuff.
