reading series about woman and gargoyle: woman is black, no cues at all (on cover, elsewhere?)
Likely C.E. Murphy's Negotiator trilogy (covers: 1 (http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51lKC1tG-rL._SS500_.jpg) 2 (http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51niN%2BPu7FL._SS500_.jpg) 3 (http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51i5VujfZeL._SS500_.jpg)); heroine's race is a significant plot point (more than once she compares her experiences with whites to the supernaturals vs. humans). I liked the characters, but the second book had them overlooking the obvious so much that I didn't read the third.
