Three that I've been liking recently:

  1. "The Last High," the Dandy Warhols (YouTube). (Note that when I link to YouTube it's for the song not the video; indeed I recommend queuing it up and then putting it in the background, so that the video doesn't affect your opinion of the song.) This reminds me a bit of the Afghan Whigs in 1965/"Lost in the Supermarket" terrority, slinky pop-rock about dysfunctional relationships. Can anyone tell me if this typical of their stuff? We have two other songs of theirs that doesn't sound much like it at all, more guitar-ish.
  2. "A Million Ways," Ok Go and Bonerama (YouTube). Many things are better with a horns section, and this is one of them.
  3. "Devil Take My Soul," Son of Dave (featuring Martina Topley Bird) (iLike, possibly only a sample). Catchy R&B.

What are you listening to lately?

Of course you can dance! It doesn't matter how it *looks*, or even if you're really keeping time, as long as you are having fun with it.

Thanks for the links! :)

I'm not a big fan of TDW, but from what I know of their stuff, it's usually more guitar-ish, like Bohemian Like You and Get Off.

You might want to give them a wider sampling, though, you might end up liking more of their stuff. For me, We Used To Be Friends holds a special place in my heart because it was the theme to Veronica Mars, and I think Sleep is very chill.

Just posted a music meme, as it happens; I've been listening to a lot of VNV Nation recently, which is a stress reaction, but a more positive one than my former habit of Sisters of Mercy in such situations.

Here is Perpetual (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ikRbKhbvees), which I think is reasonably representative, and on the cheerful side.

This morning, it was several Alex de Grassi albums, shaken but not stirred (I needed calm). This afternoon, I shuffled my entire library.

Today, I am listening to the sound of my office printer whirring.

It is very Zen.

Lots of Monica Zetterlund's, especially those of her songs that were written or translated by Hans Alfredsson and Tage Danielsson (Swedish only). Eg:

Inte mod (based on "In the Mood")

Var blev ni av (based on "Where Did You Go")

Donna Juanita (based on Franz Schubert's 6th symphony)
