Yeah, the story definitively states she was 25 when she dies in a hiking accident. I am a bit dismayed that the movie sets up a really good ship that it then sinks (in the story I thought it was pretty obvious they would break up for reasons) for no reason other than the Drama Of It All. And Renner got some of the goddamn corniest lines EVER. But I see it separate from the original text so it makes me happy on that score. I re-read the story last night and went to see it again and it does still work for me in a variety of ways, but it might be because I'm not that attached to the story? IDK...
