Deeply irrelevant in the context of so many other broader discussions to have about Moana (which I enjoyed, but all cultural points agreed; also I think there's some super interesting gendered Hero's Journey stuff to talk about) but the one thing I came away from the film really confused about from a Doylian standpoint: why the bait-and-switch extraneous animal companion? why introduce the pig? what was the narrative point of that??
