SteelyKid has a cold so I am catching up on All the Things, home version. Including my Arisia schedule, which is typically great:
Friday, January 12 :: 7pm :: Fans of Color Social & Safe Space :: Otis (2W), 7pm - 8:15pm
Tracks: Communities
Types: Meetup
Mark Oshiro, Ashe Samuels, Kate Nepveu
Some of us are obvious ethnic or racial “minorities”. Some of us have mixed heritage, or look to be of European extraction, but aren’t. Whatever our outsides look like, our insides are geeky. But being a Fan of Color can be isolating, anxiety-inducing, or even terrifying. Join other Fans of Color at Arisia in a safe space to chat about the good and bad of your Fandom experience. (To maintain a safe space, Allies are asked not to attend.)
Saturday, January 13 :: 4pm :: 50 Panels in 75 Minutes :: Marina 1 (2E), 4pm - 5:15pm
Tracks: Fan Interest
Types: Panel
Tags: Featured
Kate Nepveu (moderator), Mark Oshiro, Chris Brathwaite, Ashe Samuels, Jennifer Pelland, Andy Rosequist
You write down panel titles at the beginning. We’ll draw them out of a hat, and try to get through 50 panels in 75 minutes.
Saturday, January 13 :: 7pm :: Steven Universe: We'll Always Find a Way :: Burroughs (3E), 7pm - 8:15pm
Tracks: Media
Types: Panel
Kate Nepveu (moderator), Brian Liberge, Julia Rios, Hannah Simpson, Rachel Kenley
Steven Universe continues to be a show that deals uncompromisingly with issues around gender, childhood, and family in ways both unexpected and delightful (if not without the occasional problem). It's also telling a great long-form adventure story. We'll talk about all elements of this show in a panel that, like the show itself, will appeal to fans of all ages.
Saturday, January 13 :: 8:30pm :: When the Panel Goes Rogue... :: Marina 1 (2E), 8:30pm - 9:45pm
Tracks: Fan Interest
Types: Panel
Jonathan Woodward (moderator), Heather Urbanski, Christopher K. Davis, Michael A. Burstein, Kate Nepveu
An off topic panelist. An audience member who seems to think they're on the panel. An ineffective moderator. How do you address these situations when they arise? What is the role of the moderator, other panelists, and the audience itself?
Sunday, January 14 :: 2:30pm :: Gate of Truth - Revisiting Fullmetal Alchemist :: Adams (3W), 2:30pm - 3:45pm
Tracks: Anime
Types: Panel
Ben "Books" Schwartz (moderator), Colin Janson, Zachary Clemente, Kate Nepveu
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood came out 7 years ago, and remains a show that many hold dear to their hearts. With the help of a little alchemy, the story of Edward & Alphonse has reached far and wide, spreading outside of just anime fandom. FMA has made us laugh, and has definitely made us cry, but what is it about the world of FMA and it’s characters that keeps bringing us back? Join our panelists for a discussion on the country of Amestris and all the horror and wonder contained within.
Sunday, January 14 :: 4pm :: Pokemon TCG :: Hancock-FastTrack2 (2W), 4pm - 5:15pm
Tracks: Fast Track
Types: Panel
Kate Nepveu (moderator), Micah Schneider
Come learn how to play the Pokemon Card Game and battle with your friends!
Sunday, January 14 :: 8:30pm :: The Real Person in the Artificial Body :: Adams (3W), 8:30pm - 9:45pm
Tracks: Literature
Types: Panel
Ken Schneyer (moderator), Kevin Turausky, LB Lee, John G. McDaid, Kate Nepveu
The artificially created person is literally as old as SFF, and they have returned many times in different iterations. What does it mean to be created by human ingenuity today, and how is that different than what it was like when Dr. Frankenstein did it? How has the trope of the artificial person affected our views of humanity, of assistive technology, and of bodily autonomy? Our panelists will explore the created person, what they have meant and what they continue to mean to us today.
Monday, January 15 :: 10am :: Discussing the Hugos :: Marina 1 (2E), 10am - 11:15am
Tracks: Literature
Types: Panel
Kate Nepveu (moderator), Reuben Baron, Julia Gilstein, Lisa Batya Feld, Mark W. Richards
Our Panelists will discuss the winners and the sinners.
Also, BAKE SALE, Saturday morning near the Dealer's Room downstairs, bring and/or buy delicious foods!
Finally, a poll:
