"The Book of Dougs": since I'm not into Chidi/Eleanor this go-round, all that part of the episode fell flat for me. It was noticeable how calm and decisive he was, though. I enjoyed the Tahani-Jason-Janet interactions a lot, though.
It makes a lot of sense from a storytelling perspective to not see the actual Good Place. And it's not remotely surprising how absolutely ineffectual the Committee is; I don't think it was supposed to be, it's both kind of the obvious answer to the theodicy problem in this universe and also necessary from a character-agency perspective. I think. I'm tired.
Anyway, my notes to myself say "this is an episode that mostly feels to me contingent on the overall season?", and I feel like I've said that a lot about this season.
"Chidi Sees the Time-Knife": at least this felt a lot more intriguing and dynamic? I love that Jason's empathy and compassion wins through again. And they're running a new experiment—back in the "Good Place," back in the situation that was destroyed!—with only one episode left in the season?! Again I feel like so much of this is going to stand or fall on how it all shakes out, but at least it was more interesting along the way.
Oh, and the thing around Tahani's neck is a Niednagel, which is the last name of the visual effects guru; the podcast says it wasn't originally called that but the writers' room finally realized that it was the perfect nonsense word.
Finally, my DVR schedule has the following description for next week's finale: "Various events occur in a specific order." I'm using that for everything now.
