There has recently been some discussion of writer's block on LJ, and so this essay from the New York Times's Sunday book review caught my eye:

Writer's block, like insomnia, is a subject of keen interest to those who have it and great tedium to those who do not.

(I hereby apologize for inflicting tales of insomnia upon all of you.)

The letter from Conrad quoted above goes on and on about his own inability to write. Hee.

Insomnia to me is an excuse to get some writing done (unless it's because of a sinus headache, in which case it's an excuse to groan). And writer's block is an excuse to get some extra sleep. So far, they balance out. :)
