Date: 2007-09-25 02:51 am (UTC)I didn't really notice (or, more accurately, couldn't put into words) the emotional aspect of the series. But you're right, it's very blatant. Oddly, I liked that and felt quite comfortable with it. The emotions shown are so pure and sincere that I like that they are so much a part of the story. It adds a real depth to the characters too, I think, that their emotions aren't a product of the plot, they are the plot. I liked that a great deal.
I thought the surrealism of the series was done fantastically well, too. There's such a difference between surreal fiction and art done well and stuff that just doesn't make sense. I really can't put my finger on what it is that allows certain series to pull of the surreal thing with aplomb while others just can't get their readers/viewers to susped their disbelief, but Princess Tutu did it. I always know the surrealism in a piece of fiction has worked for me when I don't even notice it until later, possibly even until somebody else points it out to me. XD I was like that with Princess Tutu. When she danced the flowers into existence, I didn't even blink. I didn't even find the anteater strange!
Whoops, I rambled a little bit there. But yes, I agree, it's a wonderfully done series with a really unique and profound concept and I'd recommend it highly to anyone.
