Heh. It's been a long long time since I read it, so I don't guarantee how well it holds up, but this trailer is remarkable for hitting the points people are most likely to remember and yet entirely failing to convey the feeling and giving exactly the wrong idea.

I clicked on it, violating my no spoilers policy, because I expected bad Shakespeare (I know the ending of *that* Winter's Tale). I had not heard of the book either, but am glad to know about it now. Thanks.

I guess the existence of the movie is justifying itself thusly, but I am still not sure I am reconciled to it. =>

Yeah, I just. No. I loved that book once upon a time, and in my memory it's all hazy and glittery with snow falling gently past gaslamps and the white horse trotting gently into the marshes at the edge of the city. And the sled on the lake in the north.

Not... this. Argh.

I don't actually remember a thing about how it ends, just the beginning section and then the fact of all the 50-page sections introducing us to new character after new character. Perhaps I will re-read it.

It does not help that, of the four leads, only one and a half displays screen presence (Russell Crowe, are you phoning this in or something?), and from what I remember of the story, Jennifer Connelly's character has the least story to go with her.
