Yargh! I totally face planted on US-english centered language. thank you for clarifying for me.

I'm also fascinated by the idea that in Australia "urban" means white yuppies in cities. In the US "urban" is african american, often male, economically marginal, etc. "Urban" is rap, hip-hop, etc. but not just the music but also the fashion & cultural aspects. It's this quagmire of race and class with random sexism all smooshed together. I mean sometimes "urban "does mean white middle class yuppies, but then it's usually combined with another word/phrase so it's clear who you're talking about.

On a related note, I'm always cranky face at how often "urban fantasy" takes place in cities seemingly populated only by white people.
