Trailer. The AV Club says it starts airing next month on BBC One; no specific date on BBC One's website, nothing on BBC America about whether it will air simultaneous.

. . . I hate it. The frenetic music, the wizard-fu, the dull colors. I just about recoiled from the screen with wrong.

Of course I'll still watch it, but, ugh. I hope this is entirely unrepresentative.

It is definitely from the Harry Potter school of Dark Blue Cinematography, but, IDK, I am more hopeful. Perhaps I am just charmed to see a fantasy with no superheroes in it. ;)

Has it already played in Britain? I thought I heard complaints about it being too dark. (Well, unless I was confused and they were talking about something else. Perfectly possible.)

I liked some things, near the end, certainly enough that I plan to watch it. Though, like you, I plan to watch it anyway. Especially after the Tor reread!

Watching the trailer made me realize how little I remember about the book. The general outline of the plot, the tone, the footnotes, yes, but I've completely lost the sense of what I'd expect an adaptation to be. I doubt I have the time to reread it before the miniseries comes out, but it might be worth doing so some time this year.

*sigh* I got stuck partway into the book. It's still sitting at the foot of my bed, underneath a bunch of nonfiction.

I do want to go on - I was enjoying it. Maybe it took too much brain for where I was at? I'm just past the first appearance of Vinculus, BTW.

I don't think it's coming to BBC America until later in the summer. There was definitely an ad during Orphan Black, but I was FFing through the commercials and didn't stop.

"In the Hall of the Mountain King" was very nearly the worst music they could have backed it with and I continue to feel it should be filmed like an Austen adaptation, not a contemporary dark fantasy. (I would also settle for a Richard Dadd painting.) Otherwise, having heard almost nothing about the project until now, I am heartened by the casting of Eddie Marsan as Mr Norrell, Marc Warren looks almost exactly like the book's illustrations of the gentleman with thistle-down hair (i.e., absolutely nothing like my mental image, but at least arguably canonical), I don't recognize the actor playing Strange at all, and everything else I am reserving judgment on. The script had better have done well by Stephen.

There are, at least, some frames in there which are not entirely teal and orange. :-/
